Balancing “sustainability” and innovation.

The theme for Domotex 2024 was "FLOORED BY NATURE."
As industries embraced sustainability with heightened awareness, many innovative efforts were taking place.  These included exploring the potential of new materials and refining traditional practices like repurposing and recycling.

“Exploring the Possibilities of All Materials” Upcycling EffortsEnter Next Stage

The special exhibition themes, "THE GREEN COLLECTION" and "Insight Italy," garnered significant attention.
"THE GREEN COLLECTION" featured new products developed by various companies, highlighting the use of diverse materials in each layers consisting its product.
Chiara Rodriguez, a rising star in next-generation material design, curated “Insight Italy,” which presented innovative sustainable practices from italian manufactures.  Some of these practices included unconventional approaches like utilizing food and industrial waste, demonstrating a move to the next stage in upcycling.

Notable CMF: Oak and Cork

The most prevalent material at the venue was oak.  Most finishes showcased the clear appeal of the wood species.  The popularity of oak veneer continues from recent trends, but this year, most products emphasized environmentally friendly substrates.
Another notable material was cork.  Its soft and eco-friendly characteristics were utilized in various applications, including substrates and textured wall finishes.

Natural oak was frequently seen with visuals emphasizing substrate composition.  Cork was used not only for flooring but also for walls.

Future Outlook: Balancing "Sustainable Materials" and "Refined Design"
