Interior Trends from 2025 to 2026 based on the Latest Lifestyle Trends
2025/06/16

Our daily lives have changed significantly due to the advancement of technology, environmental awareness, and the Covid-19 pandemic. These changes have also been reflected in lifestyle trends, which have had a new impact on interior design. Against a backdrop of more remote working and solidifying interest in sustainable lifestyles, how will interior trends from 2025 to 2026 manifest themselves? In this column, we will consider interior trends from 2025 to 2026 on the basis of the latest lifestyle trends.
From here, we will take a look at interior trends based on the latest lifestyle trends.
Three lifestyle aspects that need to be focused on going forward are:
• Flexible work-life balance
• Trends after sustainability takes root
• Fusion with digital technology
Let’s take a detailed look at the relationship between each lifestyle aspect and interiors.
A New Interior Style Produced by a Flexible Work-Life Balance
Over the last few years, we have seen major changes in our lifestyles, and this is typified by the establishment of a flexible work-life balance incorporating aspects such as remote working, and “workcation”. We believe that this shows the house, which has long been a space in which to relax for many people, now requires a new approach to interior design as it now incorporates the conflicting element of work. Here, we would like to consider the impact that a flexible work-life balance has on interiors.
[A Multipurpose Space for a Flexible Work-Life Balance]
Many people have started to work remotely over recent years, and it is now completely normal to work from home.
In the context of such changes toward a flexible work-life balance, we believe that in interior design, it is becoming important for a single space to be able to play a multifunctional role. Take living rooms, for instance. These rooms need to facilitate a range of activities in a single space, activities including work and relaxation, and parties and other events on holidays. To fit with such lifestyles, aspects of design including the placement of furniture, ideas for storage, and the selection of user-friendly items have taken on an even greater importance than they had previously. For example, sofas and other furniture have traditionally been arranged and designed with a central focus on the TV, but we expect that going forward, designs that make it easy to sit down from any direction will become increasingly popular. As such, we believe that living rooms will change from their conventional style to become a space from which flexibility is required.

Furthermore, in multipurpose spaces such as this, it is more important than ever to create a space that reduces stress and allows people to refresh. In interior design, a pleasant and comfortable space is created by incorporating ideas that facilitate relaxation, ideas such as the way natural light is incorporated, designs that use greenery, and the selection of a comforting, cozy color palette.
We believe that “material mix” styles in which a person combines the materials that they themselves feel pleasant are an interior style that fit nicely with flexible lifestyles.
Changes in Interior Design Brought by a Heightened Interest in Sustainability
2024 can be called the year in which interest in the question of the environment and sustainable lifestyles took root. This shift has also had an impact on the world of interior design, and has become a new trend that has manifested itself as products that deliver a high-level of satisfaction in daily life with their use of sustainable materials, their new environmentally-friendly designs, and other such aspects. Here, we would like to consider the changes in interior design brought by a heightened interest in sustainability.
[Fusion with Sustainable Materials]
In interior design, an increasing degree of importance is being placed on the use of sustainable materials. The level of interest in designs that incorporate recyclable materials and other such environmentally-friendly materials is growing, and advances have been made in the development of products that take into account reduction of waste and environmental burden, and also in the development of designs that incorporate such thinking. Fusion with sustainable materials has become a key point in interior design. As an example, not only are furniture and interior products that use sustainable materials environmentally-friendly; they also offer the sensation of natural textures and warmth, meaning they can create healthy and natural-feeling spaces. In addition, eco-friendly furniture uses high-quality materials with excellent durability in many cases, thus offering the advantage of being able to be used over the long term.

As interest in sustainability increases, more attention is paid to the utilization of natural designs and natural materials. Designs that leverage natural wood and stone, natural materials, and the appeal of the material themselves (primitive appeal) are becoming increasingly popular. It is also a recent trend to apply elements of outdoor designs to interiors, and primitive designs leverage the beautiful compatibility of these outdoor elements with interiors to create a natural and harmonized space.
In this way, interior design that incorporates new values supports a comfortable and sustainable living environment.

Digital Technology and Interior Design

A sophisticated space using TOPPAN’s Dualsurf ™
[Evolution of Digital Signage]
Thanks to the evolution of digital technology, digital signage has brought new appeal to interior design. Through a fusion with digital signage, such as wall displays and art installations utilizing digital signage and space creation through the application of LED displays, it is now possible for whole spaces to show an entirely new side of themselves. Conventionally, digital signage and large displays had been something to display useful information and appealing content, but that compromised the design of the space they were installed in. TOPPAN’s Double View Film is a new generation of display system that conceals the existence of a display with a special veneer while enabling the display of the same kind of content as always. It is a groundbreaking product that enables the fusion of sophisticated spaces with functional spaces.

[Utilization of Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality]
The evolution of virtual reality and augmented reality is bringing new potential into the field of interior design. To take one example, the utilization of virtual reality is transforming the process of designing a space by offering simulations of furniture placement and interior design, previews of reforms before they are carried out, and other such things in virtual space. Furthermore, a new form of visual experience is being brought into existence through the use of design applications that utilize augmented reality, and digital art.
This is how digital technology, including the use of virtual reality and fusions with digital signage, is steadily changing our living spaces into more comfortable and creative ones.
Now we have considered and discussed interior trends from the latest lifestyle trends from 2025 to 2026.
