Heimtextil 2024 Report

Heimtextil is one of the world's largest textile trade fairs, held annually in January in Frankfurt, Germany. This year, despite concerns of decrease in visitors due to railway strikes and demonstrations by agricultural workers, the event attracted 307,418 visitors, which surpassed 2,000 visitors than the previous year. The main theme of the Heimtextil 2024 was "New Sensitivity" that focuses on future impacts.
From the official website, the main theme of this year's Heimtextil is "New Sensitivity." The theme highlights on empathy,
compassion, and solidarity beyond humanity. The event showcased new technologies and initiatives that investigated the theme beyond time and place.
Below are the three topics that exemplify the theme of New Sensitivity:
1. Plant-derived textiles
2. Textiles utilizing bioengineering technology
3. Technological textiles that includes recycling and functionality-enhancing technologies
1. Plant-based textiles that integrates to existing ecosystems.
A Mexican startup showcased vegan leather made from cacti, offering a soft, luxurious product. This vegan leather achieved durability that can be used in footwear and car seats.
2. Developing environmentally sustainable fiber dyes using E. coli bacteria.
Through synthetic bioengineering, eco-friendly dyes are derived from DNA cultivated from natural bacteria.
3. Recycling textiles that were destined to be landfilled or incinerated.
Microfibers created without using organic solvents and partially using recycled polyester gained a lot of attention.
Notable colors and pattern.
C and P (colors and pattern) out of CMF+P (color, material, finish, pattern) that TOPPAN took notice of.
“Terracotta” emerged as a prominent color trend that resonated across Milan Salone 2023 and CERSAIE 2023.The vibrant apricot hue with subtle yellowish tint lead the color while “botanical” pattern lead the trend in pattern sector. These two combination of color and patterns dynamically and delicately express the vitality of plants while adding an accent to the space. The botanical design evokes richness and warmth of nature signify sustainability and aligns with contemporary
trends.
Heimtextil’s ongoing evolution.
The above captures some of the key design highlights seen at Heimtextile2024. This year, in particular, saw an increased awareness of sustainability and AI, discovering diverse outputs.
Looking ahead, Heimtextile 2025 announced a collaboration with a Milan-based design studio "Studio Urquiola".
*Studio Urquiola is an influential international design studio founded by Patricia Urquiola and her partner Alberto Zontone in 2001.
